1 Cup MAI RASOI Toor dal (also known as arhar dal)
3 or 4 cups water
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
2 teaspoons cumin seeds (jeera)
¼ teaspoon Hing
1 chopped Onion
1 chopped Tomato
1 teaspoon Garlic
3 teaspoons lemon juice
Chopped green coriander for garnish
Method
After washing the Dal, add water, salt, turmeric, and pressure cook till the dal is tender and of a consistency of your choice. (Normally takes 2 – 3 whistles if cooked in a cooker)
Reduce heat and add Cook for 5 minutes stirring continuously.
Prepare the Tadka: In another pan, heat the remaining butter. Add Hing, cumin seeds & chilli (optional).
Add to the dal and stir when the mixture starts to sputter add the garlic , onion & tomato & cook till brown
when ready add lemon juice (optional) &chopped green coriander
