Moong Dal droplets


Fritters (pakode) and Rain is an unbeatable combination. Make your own healthy moong dal droplets to enjoy when it’s rainy. MAI RASOI Moong Dal is a healthy alternative to the regular potato fritters.

Ingredients

  1. 2 Cup Dhuli Moong Dal (Soaked for 2-3 hrs)
  2. Pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
  3. Half a cup of oil
  4. ½ teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  5. 1 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
  6. 2 Teaspoon Dania powder
  7. 1 teaspoon Mango powder(Amchur) – Optional
  8. ½ teaspoon Garam Masala
  9. 2 green Chillies
  10. 2 Sliced Onions
  11. Salt to taste
  12. ½ cup water

Method

  1. After Soaking the dal for 2-3 hours, grind it with a pinch of Hing. Grind till a smooth paste.
  2. Add the Cumin seeds, red chilli powder , Dhania powder & mango powder to the Dal.
  3. Cook the Dal mixture with  2 to 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Stir continuously on a medium flame so no lumps are formed. Cook for 8-10 minutes . The dal mixture is ready when it starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  4. Take 1 teaspoon of oil in half a cup of water. Use this to wet your palm to help make small dal balls when the mixture is hot. The oil & water protect the hand from burning & also the Dal from sticking to the hand.
  5. Prepare the Tadka : Take a few tablespoons of oil . Add the hing  and Jeera. After it stops sputtering add the green chillies & sliced onions, green chillies.
  6. Allow Onion to  cook till slightly brown then add garam masala & red chilli powder
  7. Add the Moong Golis to the tadka& stir lightly for a couple of minutes.
  8. Serve hot with Green Chutney
  9. (You can use this in spinach gravy or any tomato based gravy too)
