Ingredients
- 1 Cup MAI RASOI Toor dal (also known as arhar dal)
- 3 or 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin seeds (jeera)
- ¼ teaspoon Hing
- 1 chopped Onion
- 1 chopped Tomato
- 1 teaspoon Garlic
- 3 teaspoons lemon juice
- Chopped green coriander for garnish
Method
- After washing the Dal, add water, salt, turmeric, and pressure cook till the dal is tender and of a consistency of your choice. (Normally takes 2 – 3 whistles if cooked in a cooker)
- Reduce heat and add Cook for 5 minutes stirring continuously.
- Prepare the Tadka: In another pan, heat the remaining butter. Add Hing, cumin seeds & chilli (optional).
- Add to the dal and stir when the mixture starts to sputter add the garlic , onion & tomato & cook till brown
- when ready add lemon juice (optional) &chopped green coriander
